Play babble
Apr. 6th, 2006 10:55 pmSo after two full blown real rehearsals of Macbeth I can safely say this:
It is going to be one orgytastic show.
Our witches, who are actually six actors (three yin and three yang that form three whole beings) pretty much run their hands all over both Lord and Lady Macbeth within the first ten pages of the script. There is an *almost* rape scene in now that I don't particularly agree with on a character level, but I'll make it work. Oh, and I lead Macbeth into the bedchamber where the six "female" witches lower me to the bed and just kinda hang out while Macbeth and I fall into a "passionate embrace." We haven't blocked all of that so Lord only knows how that's going to turn out. My directer is more than slightly cracked out of her gourd.
I feel really bad because it's a huge cast and that means a lot of the time people are forced to just hang out and wait for the "leads" to get their blocking finished so we can run one scene and go home. It's not conducive to productive rehearsals to have that many people in the auditorium who are board as all get out. Plus I've so been there watching someone else play the part you *really* wanted. It blows. And I'm certain some of the girls feel like that watching me. Especially since I we are blocking with scripts in hand and with no clear sense of motivation.
The set is going to be awesome, but I'm a little worried that the acting will be overlooked due to the presentational nature of the show. The director is *very* focused on the visual at the moment and since she's mostly making it up as she goes along there is no clear sense of character arcs yet. We aren't sure when to bust out the high end emotions and when to play if close to the vest. Ah well. That will hopefully improve with time.
Also, I'm still wearing a red leather corset style bodice. So hawt. It should be done next for me to play with.
