Doctoring

So today I went to the doctor. Joy. I got a referral to a nutrition/wellness class which is good news. My dad has adult onset diabetes and quite frankly if I don't get my head out of my ass about my food issues (oh how I hate food!) I'm going to end up in the same boat. Ick.

But that's not what I wanted to write about today. Today I did a neat thing. I got the first round of the HPV vaccine. Go me! I know a couple of people on my flist had been thinking about getting this so this is my experience.

It wasn't bad. I mean, it was a shot, but it wasn't the most painful shot I've ever had. There was, however, a lot of fluid in that needle. The nurse giving me the shot obviously knew what she was doing, which always helps. I got it about an hour ago and the site isn't sore anymore. I get to go in for the second dose in 2 months and the third in six months.

I know some health care providers are being wanky about it (for instance one clinic in Boston won't give it to you if you are over 21 because women are such whores now they will all already be infected by then) but mine wasn't too bad. You had to be under 27, which is slight bullshit, and had less than five sexual partners. Anyone wanna lie? I would, if I needed to in order to get the vaccine.

I also taught my doctor the term fluid bonded. For the win. I had to see a male doctor because it was either him or wait another month because I was a new patient, but I may just keep him. He was very nice and respectful, which my last (female) doctor was not but we'll see. Chances are I'll be moving all of my gyn care to midwives soon anyway. It's good to know how to network!

In other news, I really need a vulva icon.
