I have come to the conclusion that I hate throwing parties. Were I to throw a party I would feel responsible to be all host like and make sure everyone was enjoying themselves, not getting too hammered, not getting bored, not playing in a bathtub with a toaster etc. Normally this is not a problem. A normal Susan party consists of maaaaaaybe four people who are not Susan hitting the grocery store for everyone's favorite munchies, bad music, and watching movies. Awesome.
Unfortunately this does not bode well for any sort of 21st birthday celebration.
I have the perfect house for a (young and obnoxious) party. Sunken living room, easy access kitchen, plenty of floor space, in the middle of freaking nowhere and lots of beds for people to crash in. It would be awesome to just have a bunch of people over, provide some social lubrication, and let things ride.
Unfortunately there's where the whole being responsible comes in. I would feel like I have to be a hostess as said above. Not only that, but my mix of friends is eclectic at best. Heavy drinkers, social drinkers, non-drinkers, and those who abhor alcohol are all among my good friends. Also, I'm fairly certain some of them would flat out hate each other.
So... it looks like I may not have a 21st birthday party. I'm hoping to go out with my best friend (and possibly my brother and sister-in-law) for a free birthday drink on the actual day, but schedules might not work out.
I'm normally pretty low key about birthdays. I don't really care for being the center of attention outside a regulated forum (Jaysus! So many people wanting to talk to you and all want you to be something awesome and every single person my nature of the beast knows a slightly different version of you and there are slightly different rules of engagement for each person and OMG bad!) especially when I have to host things. I don't *get* the rules for young people hosting. I mean I could put out salad forks and use "may I" instead of "can I" and engage in witty banter with big people (meaning those with careers and dental coverage) but young people? I haven't a clue.
On the up side I discovered in my new work schedule I have every Friday off. All my other days off kind of rotate, but Friday is MINE! Which means I can see Pirates at midnight guilt free (even though I may be seeing it alone, damn it) and the 21st of July is free for birthday rompage. Of course as seen above, it will probably mean sitting at home watching Star Trek and Lord of the Rings.
ETA: The last was not a cry for pity. I actually *like* watching Star Trek and LOTR and if I can do so un-mocked in my PJs with spaghetti and soda, I'm pretty much good to go.

Date: 2006-07-04 03:00 am (UTC)I have the 17th (and 18th) off. yay! But if you want me the night of the 17, I'd need to sleep all day since I do graveyard the night before.
And you need to call me. *cries*

Date: 2006-07-04 05:44 pm (UTC)As for a party, what about a co-host(ess)? I'll get in my little VW Bug, head out there, and help host...and whatnot.
Think about that.
